MAG N.E. LINCS 53rd CHRISTMAS PARTY

We make no appology for the drunken antics that you are about to witness !!!

They came from far and wide, from the treacle mines of Warwickshire, the Fens of East Anglia, the rolling Wolds of Lincolnshire, the craggy hills of Yorkshire and the garden town of Scunthorpe. All with the sole intention of trying to replicate the fantastic time they had spent at the previous 52 shindigs we had held, not to mention trying to remember them (or actually imagine what they would have been like had we held them).

I stood alone in the function room of the Leaking Boot in Cleethorpes at about 7.20 on the night of the event wondering if I had dropped the proverbial testacle. There was neither band nor disco. Well I’ll just have to get up and sing thinks I that will do the trick. My concerns as usual came to naught, the disco and the band duly arrived along with quite a lot of people (not all at the same time I hasten to add). In fact the place was fairly heaving. I wandered around chatting to folk and talking the usual rubbish. Gary Edwards appeared and was immediately taken out into the garden for a tour of inspection of the house tent that Mickle had put up for anyone that wanted to camp. Mr Edwards was very impressed and only had to tighten one rope by all accounts, though I understand that one of the zips wasn’t centred.

In due course the band struck up, Starvin Sid are a four piece band and they played some excellent music. In fact I was even on the dance floor swinging the old empire building legs along to the beat (I’m not sure if I should punctuate that sentence with man or not). Of all the rallies and parties I have been to this year this was only the third band I have heard, I daresay because they were in the same room as the bar.

Between sets the aged but efficient Ron ably assisted by Southern Sue from Huddersfield orchestrated the raffle. The draw itself was not without some amusement as he insisted on noting the colour of each ticket. This caused a little confusion as everyone tried to establish whether their tickets were white or not, when in fact all the tickets were white. Starvin Sid came on for their second set and played their hearts out, the whole room was a shakin and a rattling. They played several encores and the assembled throng loved them. An altogether resounding success and we managed to make a few bob for the cause.

Thanks must go to Dave Broadway for designing the flyers, Kit for the tickets, Ron and Sue for the raffle, Mickle for the tent, Tommy for doing the door and many thanks for Lee and Julie for letting us have the room.

Well done to all and thanks for coming.
