Smilers' Run From John O'Groates To Lands End

The conversation went along the lines of "you fancy doing that John O'Groats to Lands End ride"?

"yeah i do mick" says I, and so dates and times were set.

We would travel to John O'Groats one day, the next day do the end to end thing and day three have a steady ride home from Cornwall

I dropped Ruth and Emily off in Grimsby for the weekend and the following morning turned up at Micks' house were his far better half Mand had made a fantastic breakie for us. We stopped at Holy Island/Lindasfarne on the way up, the causeway is coverd in puddles and on our way off the island I rode through one that was covering a bloody great pot hole in the road, fortunatly no damage was done.

As we crossed into Scotland it was raining and stayed like that all the way to Wick. The light faded and it got really cold as we neared John O'Groats on the twisty A99. We made it to the b&b (Seaview Hotel) by 10pm and supped a couple of pints of Murphys, we decieded to set off the next day at 5.30am when it was light cos we didnt recon there was a lot to gain by riding slower in the dark. So we were down by the sign post at 5.20am for pics and heading off by 5.30am. It was a good decision as the views were both great and terrifying in equal amounts. We passed a bus on fire near Inverness and mick suggested we should stop for a warm lol. We both have 1200 Bandits so fuel stops came at the same time, roughly every 130miles.

On the subject of breaks, if you smoke and you have a couple of ciggs per stop, say 20mins at each of the seven stops that we did then that would add 2hrs 20mins to your journey just for smoking ????

We filterd about 5 miles of traffic jams on the M5, one bloke in a red van didn't like this and closed the gap, i recon, as iam sure you all do, that its using a vehicle as a dangerous weapon and they should be prosecuted. It was 9.45pm by the time we made it to lands end, 16hrs 15mins after we set off and the bikes were tip top unlike our backsides' Found the digs in Penzance, Southern Comfort, and very nice they were too. I've never been to Cornwall so the next day Mick gave us a tour. On the way home we stopped at some services near Birmingham, I saw this bloke who looked familiar, it was Mark and Alana Jones, small world eh?

Milage = 1875 miles
Petrol = £240
Approx 35/40 mpg
