Run to the sun part 2 (Scarborough)

At one of our meetings I was asked to organise another ride out, the place was decided and we chose Scarborough on the 5th July 2009 and a time was set for leaving which was 9am.

The day soon came around, and it turned to be a good day for a ride out, very sunny and dry, unusual for a summers day in this country. At 8.30 people started to arrive, Rob was the first, he had swapped a shift to do the ride out, then Julian and myself arrived followed by Alf, he had some news to tell us that some people would not be coming because it was to early. Now I know some people would not be coming do prior engagements or commitments, but to early is a bit of a poor excuse.

If people thought it was to early was nothing said at meetings or by phone to arrange a different leaving time every one had plenty of notice, something could have been done rather than been told on the day.

Anyway the four of set of at 9 on the dot and made our way to the Humber bridge heading up to Driffield and onward to Scarborough, the journey went well until we got to the outskirts of Scarborough, we was filtering down to a roundabout when a dick in a people carrier decide he was fed up waiting in the queue and pulled out in front of me causing me to brake hard, he then went of up the hill as I got stuck at said roundabout, eventually I caught him up and a few choice shouted words and hand gestures where given be myself and Alf.

We then arrived in Scarborough and looked for somewhere to park, first choice was not a good one as they did not except bikes, so we went off down the sea front and found a bike bay right on the sea front, we left our bikes and found a café and had a brew, found a chippy and had fish and chips, had a walk down the front, looked in a few places, walked back up the front and found another bike park, went to another café for a brew, then went back to the bikes for the ride back, as soon as we set of the heavens opened and we got a bit wet, Julian had trouble getting traction up a hill after being stopped at some lights, after that the was really good we arrived back in Grimsby around 5pm.

All in all it was good run apart from the turnout.

I hope the run to the ace café has a better turnout

Cheers
Big Dave
