Sunday
the 19th April was the date decided for our first ever Grand
Day Out the venue was the Kingsway Kiosk on Cleethorpes Promenade
where tea, coffee and full English breakfasts were served in
ab undance to all those that were in need. Thanks to Andrew
and his staff for doing a great job and thanks to Ashley1 for
the continuous disco and announcing when your breakfast order
was ready.
The
weather remained chilly but at least the rain stayed away from
the days proceedings and preferred to entertain itself somewhere
other than Cleethorpes.
Bikers
from all over the county and country came on the day including
one rider from Newcastle although we found out later that he
became lost trying to find The Angle of the North.
Fergus
kept people entertained with his time/place/date complete ramblings.
How he remembers this stuff is uncomprehendable and should be
a topic for Arthur C Clarke and his book of Mysteries. Ron (I
think Rocket was sleeping something off) Big Dave & Alf
did the marshalling which mainly involved allowing the road
train access to the pedestrianised areas of the Prom. Noel kept
the press entertained and organised the line ups for the press
photographs. Some of which were shown in Monday’s Grimsby
Evening Telegraph.
At
one point we Ashley2 (who did a sterling job of keeping an eye
on the days proceedings, (and his little brother who spent most
of the day buried in the sand)) counted 115 bikes parked but
an estimated 200 bikes and come and gone throughout the day
which was a fantastic effort for the first Grand Day Out.
The
bikes that attended (with their riders obviously) consisted
of every thing from an MZ 250 through to streetfighters all
the way up to the huge Honda Goldwing trikes and custom Harleys.
Ruth
and Smiler arrived later in the morning complete with Emily
(MAG’s youngest member contender) in the newly painted
sidecar which Smiler was taking great pleasure in showing off
– Little does he know that we have commandeered the extra
luggage space for the next rally.
A
big thank you to members of The Triumph Owners from Lincoln
& Peterborough, The Royal Enfield Owners, Lincolnshire MZ
Owners. Yorkshire Goldwing Owners Club, Lincolnshire Goldwing
Owners Club also The Shimwittlers, Mid Lincs MAG and the good
folk from Sheffield, The Garden Town of Scunthorpe, Louth, Immingham
etc
Unfortunately
Wallace and Grommit had other commitments and couldn't make
it on their sidecar outfit, Oh well, maybe next year.
That
only leaves me to say a massive thank you to all that attended.
